About this piece

The Ribbon is a thick long-grain board with a dark walnut strip running through the face like a clean central line. The open timber either side keeps the board simple and useful, while the contrast gives it a more finished table presence.

A juice groove, rounded edges, recessed grips and rubber feet make it practical for daily prep and serving. The long-grain structure gives a stable working face and easier handling than a comparable end-grain board, with enough weight to stay settled on the counter.

The timbers
European Oak
Quercus robur · Germany

Pale gold, open-grained, and built for work - the classic European bench timber.

A pale honey-gold hardwood that deepens beautifully with age and oil. European Oak is strong, open-grained, and famously durable, long used in furniture, joinery, beams, and hard-working surfaces across Europe. Best for chopping boards and pieces that need to feel solid, practical, and made for real everyday use.

Black Walnut
Juglans nigra · North America

A dark, temperamental timber - quiet under oil, dramatic under light.

A deep chocolate-brown hardwood that develops warmer, sometimes violet undertones when oiled. Black Walnut is slightly softer than oak, with a richer, more expressive grain that makes it especially suited to serving boards, bowls, and pieces meant to be looked at as well as used. Durable enough for regular use, but prized just as much for its depth, contrast, and the way it ages beautifully.

Care instructions

Wash by hand with mild soap. Towel dry. Re-oil every 6-8 weeks with food-safe oil.
