Walnut chopping boards, dark and hard-wearing.

Black walnut is the dark, warm hardwood at the other end of the palette from oak — a touch softer, so it's kind to knife edges, and prized as much for its deep chocolate colour as its hard-wearing surface. Every walnut board here is built by hand by Ewald from British-supplied hardwood and finished with food-safe oil, which lifts the grain and deepens the colour.

Common questions

Is walnut good for a chopping board?

Yes — black walnut is a rich, dark hardwood that's a touch softer than oak or maple, which makes it gentle on knife edges while still hard-wearing. It's prized as much for its colour as its performance.

Does a walnut board need special care?

No — the same routine as any of our boards: hand-wash, dry on edge, and re-oil with a food-safe oil when dry. The oil deepens walnut's colour beautifully. No dishwasher.

Is the colour real?

Yes. The deep brown is the natural colour of black walnut heartwood — nothing is stained or dyed. It mellows a little with age and lifts again with each oiling.
