Edge-grain chopping boards, everyday workhorses.

An edge-grain board shows the long side of the timber — the board you picture when you picture a wooden board. The grain runs lengthwise, which makes for a lighter, slimmer piece that's quick to grab and easy to live with, at a gentler price than end-grain. Each one is built by hand by Ewald from British-supplied hardwoods and finished with food-safe oil.

Common questions

What is an edge-grain chopping board?

It's a board made from the long edges of the timber glued side by side, so the grain runs along the surface. It's lighter and slimmer than an end-grain board and shows off the wood's figure.

Edge-grain or end-grain — which should I choose?

Edge-grain is lighter, slimmer and a little cheaper; end-grain is kinder to knife edges and better for heavy chopping. Both are solid hardwood and built to last. If you do a lot of knife work, look at our end-grain boards.

How do I look after an edge-grain board?

Hand-wash, dry it on edge, and re-oil with a food-safe oil when it looks dry. No dishwasher.
