About this piece

The Ripon brings the warm, shifting colour of American cherry into a broad working face, framed on all four sides with Black Walnut. Wide long-grain sections preserve the timber's natural figure, while the dark rails and corner details give the 49 x 31 cm surface a strong, balanced character that earns its place on the worktop.

At 3.5 cm thick and 3.1 kg, it has a settled feel for vegetables, bread and larger carving jobs. A routed perimeter juice groove keeps liquids away from the counter, while the softly rounded profile makes the board comfortable to move. This configuration is shown without rubber feet or recessed hand grips, keeping the profile clean and uncluttered.

The timbers
American Cherry
Prunus serotina · North America

Soft pinks, honey warmth, and a colour that only gets better with age.

A warm, reddish hardwood with a calm, refined grain that glows beautifully once oiled. American Cherry begins with soft pink, honey, and light brown tones, then gradually darkens into a richer amber-red patina with use and exposure to light. Softer than oak and maple, it makes a warm, characterful chopping board — as much about grain and warmth as everyday function. Ages gracefully.

Black Walnut
Juglans nigra · North America

A dark, temperamental timber - quiet under oil, dramatic under light.

A deep chocolate-brown hardwood that develops warmer, sometimes violet undertones when oiled. Black Walnut is slightly softer than oak, with a richer, more expressive grain that makes it a striking choice for a chopping board meant to be looked at as well as used. Durable enough for regular use, but prized just as much for its depth, contrast, and the way it ages beautifully.

Care instructions

Wash by hand with warm water and mild washing-up liquid, then dry immediately. Do not soak or place in a dishwasher. Re-oil with food-safe board oil when the surface begins to look dry, and store with air able to circulate around both faces.
