A compact, extra-thick beech butcher's block with a settled end-grain face and recessed grips for serious prep.
Made by hand by Ewald — see the process →
The Tadcaster is a compact butcher's block built from European beech end grain. The regular field of blocks gives the working face a quiet rhythm, while the end-grain structure is forgiving under a knife and suited to repeated chopping, carving and preparation.
At 4.8 cm thick and 2.65 kg, it has the settled feel expected of a butcher's block without taking over the worktop. Recessed grips make the deep profile easier to move, and the clean, ungrooved face leaves the full surface available for prep or a generous serving of bread, cheese and fruit.
Quiet, pale, and practical - the dependable workhorse of European hardwoods.
A pale, creamy hardwood with a fine, even grain and a calm, understated character. European Beech is harder than cherry and walnut, making it a dependable choice for everyday boards, kitchen tools, and functional pieces that need to stand up to regular use. Its subtle colour and smooth surface let the form of the piece do the talking. Simple, honest, and quietly durable.
Wash by hand with mild soap and dry promptly. Do not soak or place in a dishwasher. Re-oil with food-safe board oil when the surface begins to look dry, and dry with air circulating around every face.
We ship to Great Britain & Northern Ireland: a flat £9.97, added at checkout, and free on orders of £200 or more. Sent by Royal Mail 24 once dispatched — usually with you the next working day. Each piece is packed in a recycled card box. Made-to-order items can be returned within 14 days unless they've been used; bespoke commissions — and boards engraved with your wording — are non-returnable, though your rights on faulty goods are unaffected.
