A one-off single-piece English ash board with a deep juice groove, substantial 4 cm profile and naturally contrasting character grain.
Made by hand by Ewald — see the process →
The Skipwith is cut from one solid piece of Sawn Prime English ash, with no laminated strips or glued joints. Its broad face follows the timber's natural long grain from pale outer tones into a darker central figure, while the 4 cm profile and 2.5 kg weight give it a steady presence for chopping, carving and serving.
Softly rounded edges and a routed juice groove make the working face practical for everyday prep and food shared at the table. A natural knot and small surface check sit within the darker grain and are shown clearly in the gallery; they belong to this individual piece of timber, rather than a failed joint, and make this a genuinely one-of-a-kind board.
Pale, lively and quietly architectural.
English ash is a pale, characterful hardwood with a strong linear grain and clearly drawn growth rings. Once oiled, its cream and straw tones deepen to warm honey, while occasional olive-brown streaks give each board its own rhythm. Hard, resilient and distinctly lighter in appearance than oak or walnut, it brings natural texture to a kitchen without feeling visually heavy.
Wash by hand with warm water and mild washing-up liquid, then dry immediately. Do not soak or place in a dishwasher. Re-oil with food-safe board oil when the surface begins to look dry, and keep both faces away from direct heat with air able to circulate around the board.
