English ash is a pale, characterful hardwood with a strong linear grain and clearly drawn growth rings. Once oiled, its cream and straw tones deepen to warm honey, while occasional olive-brown streaks give each board its own rhythm. Hard, resilient and distinctly lighter in appearance than oak or walnut, it brings natural texture to a kitchen without feeling visually heavy.
English Ash measures Janka 1,480 — hard enough to take daily knife work and last for years with a little care.
Hand-wash it, dry it standing on edge, and re-oil with a food-safe oil when the surface starts to look dry. Never put it in the dishwasher. The full routine is in our care guide.
Yes. Every board is finished with food-safe oil and wax, so the surface is safe for food preparation. The finish may contain mineral oil, beeswax, coconut and vitamin E — if you have an allergy, check the care guide before ordering. English Ash itself is a close-grained hardwood well suited to kitchen use.
