Our customised 'butcher's block' chopping board has just arrived - a work of art. Almost a shame to start chopping on it. I'm a firm believer of 'buy once, buy well' and this fits the bill entirely.

We bought this for our mum's birthday and she was properly chuffed with it! Beautiful wood, great craftsmanship and feels like something that'll last years.

This is the board that stays out. The block pattern is more calm in person, honey oak against pale beech, while coming in at 4 kg, it doesn't move on its own during chopping. The side grips are smartly designed with a nice ergonomic grip and are good for…

Most pieces are ready to ship and leave within 1 working day; anything made to order shows its lead time before you buy. Selected boards can be personalised with your words, engraved at the same bench, and years from now the workshop that made it can restore it. The pieces above are the whole workshop: chopping boards and serving boards, from small daily boards to end-grain butcher's blocks built from dozens of individual pieces. If you are choosing between constructions, the end-grain guide explains the difference honestly; if you are choosing a wood, the nine species pages show colour, hardness and grain side by side. If a board is a gift, every order can carry a handwritten gift note, and no prices go in the box. If you are not sure which board they would choose, a gift voucher lets them pick it themselves. We ship to Great Britain and Northern Ireland. For a size, a shape or a wording we do not list, the workshop takes bespoke commissions.

Common questions

Are the boards in stock or made to order?

Every board is made ahead, one at a time, and listed with live availability; most ship from stock, dispatched within 1 working day. If a piece is made to order, its page says so, with the lead time, before you buy.

Which wood should I choose?

Oak is hard, open-grained and pale gold; walnut is deep chocolate brown and gentle on knife edges; cherry, beech, maple, ash, purpleheart, tulipwood and sycamore each have their own colour, grain and working character. The choice is largely about appearance, feel and intended use. The woods guide covers each timber in detail.

Can I have a board personalised?

Selected boards can be engraved, and their product pages carry the option: type your words, see them on the board in a live preview, and what you approve is what Ewald burns. It adds nothing to the dispatch time. The honest maker's guide explains where words last longest and which woods burn boldest.

How do I look after a wooden chopping board?

Wash by hand, dry standing on an edge, and oil it when the surface looks thirsty. The full routine is in the care guide. Never the dishwasher, never left soaking. A board looked after this way lasts decades, and if it ever wears, the workshop can take it back to fresh timber.

What makes these different from a £20 board?

Species you can choose by name, construction you can see (end grain or edge grain), a named maker, and a workshop that will take the board back years later and restore it. A board that costs more should be able to explain why. This one tries to, and the end-grain guide does the same for construction.
